INSTALLATION
The above pictures demonstrate how the LCD Film is applied to glass using UV glue.
Application Process
Picture 1. demonstrates the initial preparation of the glass and the film which must be cleaned using IPA (mild cleaning alcohol) to ensure any dirt, dust and grease marks are removed.
Picture 2. demonstrates that the UV glue is heated using warm water and them sprayed evenly over the glass surface.
Picture 3. demonstrates how the film is placed over the glue and then the glue is dispersed using a hard roller. It is important to ensure that the glue is evenly dispersed across the surface area and all air bubbles are removed. Small bubbles can be removed using a soft squeggee.
Picture 4. demonstrates how once all the air bubbles have been removed from the surface; the UV lamp is placed over the film to cure the glue. For large glass panels the UV lamp can be moved across the surface area in sections or several lamps can be used at once. At this stage any excess glue can be cleaned off the surface of the glass / film.
Picture 5. demonstrates that once the UV glue has been cured you can connect the power to the bus-bar and test the ON / OFF switching of the film.
LCD Film Applied to Glass
The LCD film has been designed primarily for internal applications, if it is used on external window with direct sunlight it must be protected against UV. The film can be produced to custom sizes (largest standard panel 98cm x height 300cm). Multiple panels can be positioned together to create a virtually seamless display.
LCD Film is produced in 2 sheets sizes:
· 98cm x 300cm (standard sheet size)
· 120cm x 300cm (custom order)
The above sheets can be cut down to any custom size and the bus-bar applied to electrify the film panel. Please note that the electrifying strip is generally on the short side.
Application of LCD Film onto Glass
Pro Display can now offer different types of glass with LCD Film applied - solar and energy efficient glass, security glass, self cleaning glass, coloured or tinted glass etc
Our application service means we can also produce larger panel sizes where the film is seamlessly joined on the glass surface. This also includes applications of other films with solar protection and our reflective foil to turn the glass surface into a front projection screen.
The application of film to glass also means greater flexibility, faster turn around and the facility to produced curved or shaped panels.
Lead-Time: 2 - 3 weeks
New for 2008
Pro Display will release a new version of the LCD Film which has a glue layer (PSA) already applied to the film. Simply remove the protective liner and apply using water/detergent and a squeegee in the same way as applying other film materials.
Double Glazed Sealed Units
The process of applying LCD Film to glass compared to laminating glass in our autoclaves, means a reduction in cost and lead times. The other major benefit is that we can apply the film to any type of glass and create larger panel sizes.
In 2008, we plan to expand our operation further by setting up a new facility to produce double glazed sealed units using this process. Our objective is to produce lower cost privacy panels for the domestic market.
